Anbaalayam was started by a group of volunteers in 2008 to help and assist needy children and families affected by civil war, poverty and natural disasters in the North and East of Sri Lanka.
The main focus of Anbaalayam is contributing towards children's education through child sponsorship. Children from disadvantaged families are chosen and the funds are used for their educational expenses.
In recent times, in addition to providing water and sanitation facilities, Anbaalayam has also been implementing much needed livelihood support to single mothers and differently able people so that they can earn a small income and look after the basic needs of their families.
Annual fund raising program - Ilam Thendral
The concept of ‘Illam Thendral“ was initiated to raise funds to provide sustainable support to the needy. It has also provided an avenue for the expatriate Sri Lankan community in Australia to come together and connect with, as well as to enjoy an evening of entertainment performed by talented local artists and musicians. We staged our successful 10th annual fund raising program, “Illam Thendral 2017” on the 8th of April 2017.
The orchestra, singers, dancers, actors and the contestants spend many hours of hard work and practice to entertain the audience with beautiful music singing and dancing. We would like to thank each and every participant for dedicating their valuable time year after year.
Anbaalayam is very thankful to all the donors for their continued support. A very special thanks to all our sponsors and supporters. All our volunteers play a significant role behind the scenes to make this annual event a successful one.
Annual ANBAALAYAM 7 a Side Cricket event

We are also very grateful to Mahinthan Mahadevan of BJ Accounting Wentworthville for continuing to be the proud sponsor of this event. We thank each and every player, their committees, well-wishers and friends for assisting us. Thanks to all Anbaalayam volunteers who helped on the day. A special thanks to the volunteer umpires who dedicate their day and help us with umpiring duties.
